Sunlight Activated Clean Drinking Water Bag
The Sunlight Activated Clean Drinking Water Bag is a 3-litre reusable, portable water purification system developed by Clean Drinking Water Solutions Pty Ltd in collaboration with the Global Innovative Centre for Advanced Nanomaterials (GICAN), University of Newcastle, Australia.
Designed to address real-world water contamination challenges, the system integrates advanced electrospun nanofibre photocatalytic membranes with carbon–zeolite adsorption technology to treat microbes, organic pollutants and toxic heavy metals in a single, sunlight-powered platform.
How It Works
The purification system combines two complementary treatment stages engineered for broad-spectrum water treatment:
- Stage 1 – Sunlight-Activated Photocatalytic Nanofibre Membrane
- Utilises nitrogen-doped TiO₂ electrospun nanofibres
- Inactivates bacteria and viruses under sunlight exposure
- Degrades organic pollutants through photocatalytic action
- Reduces reliance on chemical disinfectants
- Stage 2 – Carbon–Zeolite Hybrid Adsorption Cartridge
- High-surface-area microporous materials
- Adsorbs heavy metals including cadmium, chromium, zinc, lead and nickel
- Removes residual non-microbial contaminants
- Supports overall water quality improvement
The system operates using sunlight as the sole energy input and does not require electricity, batteries, or chemical dosing.
